WHAT IS A PROSTHODONTIST?
A prosthodontist is a dentist who is trained in the specialty branch of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of patients with dental conditions such as: • Missing teeth • Excessively worn or broken teeth • An aesthetically displeasing smile • A general inability to adequately chew food properly. Prosthodontics is one of 9 dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Prosthodontists receive 3 years of rigorous advanced training in addition to their dental degree.  Dr.
Andrew W. Ferrier was
raised in the Rockridge area of Oakland and attended
The College Preparatory High School. He earned his undergraduate degree
in Chemistry from UC San Diego. After receiving his dental degree from
UCLA, Dr. Ferrier returned to the Bay Area and completed the Prosthodontic
residency program at UCSF. Dr. Ferrier is currently an assistant clinical
professor at UCSF, teaching students prosth - odontics on the general
clinic floor. He teaches at both the main campus and at the Buchanan
dental clinic.
 Dr.
Robert A. Savage was raised in Santa Barbara
and earned a B.S. degree from U.C. Irvine. He went
to Chicago for dental school and earned his DDS degree
from Northwestern University. He returned to California
and completed a three year specialty program in prosthodontics at UCSF.
Currently, he alternates his time between the Oakland office and UCSF,
where he is an assistant clinical professor in prosthodontics.After Dr. Ferrier and Dr. Savage completed their Prosthodontic residency at UCSF, they opened their own prosthodontic practice, Ferrier & Savage, DDS in the winter of 2007. They now split their time between teaching dental students at UCSF and running their private practice located in the Montclair area of Oakland. Their memberships include the American Dental Association (ADA), California Dental Association (CDA), Alameda County Dental Society (ACDS), and the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP).  Ruth
Yagiz was
raised in Oakland and earned a B.A degree from the
University of Oregon. As office manager, she is our
financial, insurance, and treatment coordinator. She has 5 years of experience
working with patients billing and insurance. You can depend on her to
work closely with you to be sure the administrative aspects of your care
are well-managed and efficiently handled.
